Just make sure that the number of dependents you file your taxes with matches the number that you are having taxes withheld from your paycheck for. If you haven't had your fiancee as a dependent during this tax year, you probably should claim him now in filing, and he should probably file separately. |

You need to disregard the answers above and work up the numbers for your situation. The tax system is based primarily on numbers, and only partly on family circumstances.
Without doing the worksheet accompanying the W-4 (or getting a tax projection from a professional), anything you enter on the W-4 is a shot in the dark. Based on the information you provided, no one can tell you what to enter on the form. |

at the top of the W4 sheet there is a place to tally based on answers to the questions. You are not married and until you are you file seperately so it doesn't matter. |

Claim as many as you feel comfortable with but 1 is the legal number you are looking for.
When it comes time to file your taxes you CAN claim single, head of household status, but ONLY one exemption, the child. And ONLY one of you can claim the child. Also, the child MUST have a valid Social Security number. |
