Need more information. What did you pay? And your boyfriend what is wrong with him that he would let a 21 year old take care of him. Open your eyes there's a lot of young men out there who would take care of you. |

How much did you have withheld?
And tell the boyfriend, who is way too old to be anybody's boyfriend, to get a job. |

Your question cannot be answered. You may get back everything you paid in. Or you may owe some money if you paid little or nothing. You may not be able to claim your boy friend if he does not meet all qualifications as a dependent. You may have itemized deductions that exceed the standard deduction. |

It all depends on how much you have had withheld. More than likely with that much income you have not withheld more than 10% federal. You will get back pretty much all you have paid in federal tax.
Look at your W-2 to see how much tax was withheld and you can be sure you'll get the entire or close to the entire amount back, if you do not qualify for any other credit.
If you get any other credits, like child tax etc you can potentially get more than you paid. |

I don't think you understand what a refund is. It isn't some kind of bonus the government pays you for working. It's more like going to WalMart and buying $16 worth of items, and giving the cashier a $20 bill - she'll give you back $4, but that isn't a gift from WalMart, it's returning your overpayment.
When you get your W-2 you'll file a tax return that will calculate your taxes. If you owe more than you had withheld from your paychecks for federal income tax, then you'll have to pay the extra. If you paid in too much, they'll refund your overpayment.
Be sure that you meet ALL of the rules for claiming your boyfriend. And you can't file as head of household even if you can claim him - you'll file as single, assuming that you are. |

Here are the tests for a dependent:
1. The person cannot be a dependent of anyone else.
2. The person must live with you all year as a member of your household (and your relationship must not violate local law).
3. The person's gross income for the year must be less than $3,300.
4. You must provide more than half of the person's total support for the year. |

It depends on how much if any was withheld. Also if you boyfriend had any income of his own, or if someone else in his family claims to support him you may not be able to claim him. Sounds like you should dump him anyway, if he is not too old for you then certainly he should be supporting you, not the other way around. |
