I married on 11/20/06. I legally changed my name.1 of my w2 statements has maiden name. Do I need new w2?
I held four jobs in 2006. I was married on November 20, 2006. I changed my name with social security in mid December. I received a new social security card with my married name. I contacted all of my past employers and made them aware of name change and sent proof of change. Two of my employers STILL did NOT put my married name on my w2 statement. Can I still file online as is, or do I need to contact my employers and demand a corrected w2 statement? (I am filing for free with HR Block online.)

No, your ok .
Your Social security number is the same so there is no problem

Have fun at the audit. The IRS hates you and will make you miserable for the rest of your life. But they were going to do that any way. I believe that the SS# is the only important part. They could care less what your name is as long as they don't actually have to talk to you.

superyduperymommy
you dont need a new W2. i got married in dec 04, and filed taxes with my new last name in jan 05. i didnt even have my new socail securtiy card yet, i was waiting for it in the mail. i was still able to file my taxes with my new married name. as long as your social security number stayed the same, thats all that matters.

whatevit
YES: Just file it as it is, It is the tax number (SSN) that makes a different. It has not changed.

Raine
The ultimate way they figure out who you are is by social security number, so you are OK.

no as long as the social security number is correct it is ok to use it.

Judy1
You should be OK filing online as long as the name you file under matches your social security card.

boxersgirlbunny
File it as is, the prior year's will show a single and now you are filing married, they'll figure it out.

no... you changed your name, your ss number is still the same. The IRS only cares about the number.
