You do not have to write a letter, Once you have the return filed and the amount due paid in full, complete and submit form 843 to ask for an abatement of the penalties. Depending on the reason that you did not file they may forgive the penalties.. They can not abate of forgive the interest that you owe. This is a one time request that Taxpayers are eligilble to apply for, based on various cirumstances

Don't waste your time with a letter. Pay your taxes. The IRS doesn't care about an apology. |

Although it is nice for you to write, please believe me when I say the IRS has no heart. The best thing for you todo is file as soon as possible. Contact them and arrange a payment plan (you need to be current so file this year, even if you cant pay) This they will do for you. Best of luck! Happy filing.

for one they wont care how sorry you are, I don't beleive that they have a heart, if they do, they keep it to themselves.
Try asking an accountant what the best way is.
GOOD LUCK! |

Just file the taxes. A letter isn't going to make any difference. |

well belive me if that could have been done i would have tried it already. The IRS does not care about ur apologies, all they care about is your money + interest |

1st off make sure you check your spelling. apologizing, appreciated. Just file your taxes and then see how much you owe. The amount on interest and penalties you might be able to apply to remove the penalties based on hardship. |

You need to file your last years return, the IRS has no heart.
But,, you might make some IRS workers day,, they'd get a good laugh when they pass your letter around ,, then send your papers to audit. Just file the return,,, no letter.... |

The IRS will only wave penalties in a few situations. Such as:
1) You were dead
2) You were in a coma
3) You were stranded on a deserted island
4) You were kidnapped.
Beyond these, don't even bother with the letter. |
