You work for a year you pay a year's tax on you earnings. Work for 12 years you pay 12 year's tax on your earnings and that is it. The only money you could claim back would be the excess tax payed this year if you are on the pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) scheme. If you are on PAYE then you would have paid a excess in taxes this year and you be able to claim that excess back.
Go visit the tax office they will tell you what to do, they will not rip you off. |

You may be due a refund of inceom tax in the year you leave the UK, depending on whether or not you have used up your personal allowances, but previous years you will not be due a refund. |

Hmmm, no.
Taxes pay for services, you lived here and had those services during that time.
Think yourself lucky, that's not a lot of money for that length of time.
I've already paid that much for this tax year so far. |

absolutely not - you used our services while here. You have to pay for them. Good Luck with the move back to Spain, |

On what grounds? Ok, you might not now need a pension, but all the other amenities that were available to you (fire service, police, national health, and the army to insure you weren't over-run by a mad tinpot dictator) still need to be paid for.
And, person 2 above, I am not a 'bitter English person', simply becasue I know more than you. What help is saying 'go to the CAB'? Shall I start answering all questions, ever, with 'go to the library'? |

You have had the benefit of the NHS, the transport system and other public funded organisations for the last 12 years. Those were funded in part by the taxes you have paid so the money is spent.
Would the Spanish Government refund tax to a British citizen living in Spain if they returned to the UK, of course not. |

No.
Foreign individuals living in the UK are only entitled to request a tax rebate for the tax year during which they decide to return to their home country. |

I doubt you will get many sensible answers on here as the British have a very bitter attitude when it comes to taxes.
You should ask at the citizens advice bereau for an honest answer. |
