I think I am getting too much back?
I filed on Turbo-tax. I made around $7800. I paid in $414. Somehow Turbo-tax says I'm gettin back $774. Is there maybe some tax credit that was applied automatically by turbo-tax? Did I screw up and commit fraud on accident? I dont have any dependents and I'm single.
Additional Details
yes, i had 2-w2's. I didn't claim any thing else. But at the end of turbo-tax you go through a series of forms where you check, like, "no i didn't inherit money". or such. maybe I said yes on accident, but wouldn't they ask me for more information?

What version of Turbo Tax are you using? The online version or the program (either downloaded or from a CD)?

In the program version, there is a top line menu. One of the menu picks is "Forms". Select "Forms" and select "Show My Return" from the dropdown box. Your complete return will now be shown.

Any extra credit that Turbo Tax found will be on these forms somewhere.

go back through your return & double check that the amounts are filled in correctly.

With only $7800 in income, you would be entitled to all, or nearly all, of what you paid AND to the earned income credit, unless someone else was entitled to claim you as a dependent. The refund is the total of the earned income credit and the amount that you paid less anything that you do not get back.

Will it let you run the numbers again? Double check the information you input.

I used a different on-line company but had to run the numbers a second time. The return looked too high the first time. Turns out I had made an error when I input the information the first time and that number was wrong.

You can also go to the irs web site and see if you can find more information their.

You didnt say how old you are. But Your federal standand deduction if claiming head of household would be $7850 or $9150 if claiming head of household AND you were born before January 2, 1943 OR was blind. Taxes often are hard to understand. With children to claim as dependants the government sends back far more than what I pay in. I dont know how they figure it but it sure seems unfair in many cases.

It sound as if a mistake was made. Best to contact turbotax and have them double check it.

If you gave accurate information to Turbo-Tax then it is their responsibility to make sure your filling is accurate. I would never question this.
