I think this may be a mistake...?
I just checked my bank account and have received a stimulus payment of $300. My mom claimed me as a dependent, so I shouldn't get it right? Is there someone I can contact to correct the mistake? I don't want to get in some sort of trouble.

I just checked my bank account and have received a stimulus payment of $300. I filed my taxes back in March, but it was later amended so my mom could claim me as a dependent. So, I shouldn't get it right? Is there someone I can contact to correct the mistake? I don't want to get in some sort of trouble.

This payment appears to be based on your original tax filing, rather than the amended one you submitted later. If they decide you aren't entitled to it, they'll contact you. Although you can keep it until they ask for it back, I would recommend making sure you have enough to give it back if/when they ask for it. (IMHO, calling the IRS to ask about it won't help. You've already reported it, by making your amended tax filing. Just sit back and wait for them to catch up with that information.)

Sounds like the stimulus got processed before the amendment was. Hang onto the money, they might look for it back.

Dependents will not get the rebate.
Your mom will get rebate for you only if you are under 17 on dec 31, 2007.

For information on stimulus tax rebate schedule, the eligibility and how much rebate you will get read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/are-you-eligible.html

The IRS does make mistakes and I would hold onto it and find out what is going on.

a few years ago..I got a check from the US treasury and figured it was something that was owed to me. Well...2 months later they wanted it back.

brandy_4123
you can call the irs or go to the website just google it in regular income tax filing your mom would get it i think it should be the same with the stimulus payment

While dependents are not eligible, if the IRS goofed up and sent you one, you are free to keep it! An unusual feature of the rebate legislation is that if you are overpaid for any reason other than fraud on your part, you get to keep it. Enjoy!
