Does your mom support you? If you live with her and she is paying most of your expenses, she probably considers you a dependent and rightfully so.
It depends on how much money you've earned as to whether you even need to file a tax return, but if you do, you cannot claim yourself as a dependent if your mother did. |

You would be her qualifying child if:
you are under the age of 19 at the end of the tax year or under the age of 24 and a full time student for at least five months of the tax year
You did not provide over half of your own support
When figuring support take into consideration who paid, lodging, (rent or fair market value of house) utilities, education, medical and dental expense not covered by insurance, recreation, transportation, food consumed in the home, clothings and other necessities. If you provide over half of the amount things things cost you supported yourself and she cannot claim you.
If you are not the are stated above and you made less than 3,400 and she provided over half of yourt total support she can claim you.
You can still file a return if she claims you. You have to mark off that you are being claimed as a dependent. |

If you are under 18, yes. If you are between 18 and 21 and a full time student, yes.
It has nothing to do with you filing your own taxes. If you had income last year, you file taxes. If you didn't have any income, you have nothing to file.
You also don't have to sign anything for your mother to claim you. You only sign your OWN income tax forms. |

If you meet the rules for her to claim you, then yes she can - she doesn't need your signature or your permission. You must be under 24 and a full time student or under 19, must have lived with her for over half the year, and must not have provided over half of your own support for her to claim you. If that's your situation then yes, she can claim you.
That doesn't stop you from filing your own tax return though. But when you file, note on it that you can be claimed by someone else. If you file a 1040EZ you do that by checking the "YOU" box on line 5. |

Who provided the majority of your support? If she is sending you money and/or you live in her house, you are her dependent. You should still file your own taxes but you can't claim a dependent. |

If you are under 18 (or 23 if a student) and living with her, she has that right as she is supporting you. Why don't you talk to her about it instead of whining here? |

If you are under 24 and a student and your Mom pays more than 50% of your care she can claim you.
You can still file a return - 1040 ez to get back your withholding. |

Yes. if you are a full time student and lived in your mothers home. By all means she is allowed and should as well. I have a son that works ..he is 17 and I still claim him too..however, I do enter his w2's in the system just for legal reasons. I have mine done professionally and I hardly doubt that anyone would do that if it weren't legal..If you are still uncertain...go to irs.gov and check out their links. They have answers to anything you can think of. Have a great day! |

Just Me's answer above is the only correct one. I'm afraid the other answers are either completely wrong or could be wrong because they assume facts not presented.
As stated by Just Me, you have to see if you meet the requirements to be either a qualifying child or a qualifying relative of your mother. If you are either her QC or QR, she can claim you and you cannot claim yourself. If you are not her QC or QR, she cannot claim you. In either case, if you make over the filing minimum for your circumstances you must file a return.
As far as student status goes, it is not correct that full time students under 24 are automatically dependents of their parents. While being a student can be a factor, the other tests have to be met as well. |

You suck it up. Bummer on being a dependant or a minor. |

Are you working, if so then you can file for refund and mom can also claim you as a dependant. But you must have made under a certain amt for her to do so. Ask tax person how much that is and then file if you had worked last year |
