Hi!
You can file your own return even if you are listed as a dependent on your parents return. On your return you would file as a dependent claimed by another taxpayer.
Hope this helps.

You can't claim an exemption on two separate returns. If you had income, you can file your own return - just be sure to check the box that says you can be claimed as a dependent. If you have a refund coming, you'll get it.
Your filing won't affect your parents' ability to claim you. |

If you do not pay for over half of your support, you are a dependent on your parents' tax return. This does not mean that you cannot file your own tax return.
If you have income, file your tax return but do not claim your own exemption. If your income is less than $5,450, you will receive all of the federal income tax that has been taken from your pay. |

You must file your tax return if you are required to file.
Even if you are a dependent, you must file your tax return if your income exceeds the filing requirements or you will file to get the refund. //np If someone can claim you dependent, then you can not claim your own exemption. Read about the filing requirements of a dependent: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/filing-requirement-for-dependent.html |

If you have income, you can certainly file your own tax return. You cannot, however, claim yourself since they provide over 1/2 of your support. |

LIARS!! If they are taking care of you then they can claim you. You can still work, have a job and you then would be required to fill out your own 1040 |

They are right, the amount of money that they get back on their taxes for claiming you is a lot more than what you would get back. It's too bad for you. |
