You haven't mentioned the purpose of the payment!
Whether it is a contractor's payment, an ordinary trade payment, a personal loan, a gift, a social transaction, a donation.....etc. It could even just be your obligation to deduct tax from this payment than paying any tax on this!
The purpose of the payment determines your tax liability and without knowing that aspect, it won't be advisable to say anything in your case. |

You can peacefully issue a cheque for any amount from Rs. 1/- to any amount. No tax on issue of cheque. You can write forwarding letter. You can demand acknowledement of letter / receipt of cheque from payee. I have issued many cheques more than 50000/- for investment in shares IPO. I have account in various banks. |

You need not pay any tax for this amount but you need to quote your Pan number and the only formality you need to do if the amount exceeds INR 49999 is, you need to reveal the source of that income or amount to the concerned authorities. |
