I was told not to file my income taxes since i made less than $5,000?
now i need my 1040 forms to finish my FAFSA. i also just learned that i am eligible to get the stimulous payment, my question is can i still file since it is after April 15 and get my stimulous payment on my schedualed time or will their be penalties for not filing on time?
You can file your 1040 up until Oct. 15th and still get the stimulus rebate this year, provided you qualify. It will be delayed a few weeks.

You can file late and not be penalized. But if you were claimed as a dependent for 2007, you don't qualify for a stimulus payment.

If you owe no taxes there is no penalty because the penalty is based on a percentage of the tax owed, as is the late filing penalty. You can file late, it will simply take longer to get your stimulus payment.
Stop listening to people who tell you not to file.

Clare is correct and whoever is telling you that you need a tax return for a FAFSA is wrong- you can check box 32b and then follow Clare's advice.

I understand you have to make only three thousand dollars and you fill out the1040a and just write across the top for stimulus check purposes only then you'll receive one

There are no penalties for filing late IF the IRS will owe you money. If you will owe them money then there may be a fine.

Actually gaps in Filing history will effect you negatively in the future, (i.e. SS benefits among other things) so you should definately file. Also, you will not be penalized for filing late if you are owed monies and you most probably qualify for the stimulus payment as well! (Hope this Helps!)

If you file now, you will probably get a stimulus payment, but it will be a LONG time from now -- like end of summer -- NOT on the schdedule for people who've already filed -- and YES there are penalties for filing late.

Even though your full income is less than the allowed standard deduction......so you'll pay nothing.....
