PAYE (Schedule E tax) is due on a receipts basis, when you receive the money, not the period it is paid for. So if the money was due prior to last April 5th, but you are getting it in this tax year, it is taxable now, on this year's tax rates. If you did not earn enough money to pay tax last year, that does not count.
Sorry. |

All pay is taxable whether you work and get it or go off on holiday and get it. |

Why not?? If you earned it as normal , you would be paying tax on it. |

Why not its money earned isn't it ?? You would have been taxed on it if paid to you as holiday pay at the time. wouldn't you... |

Of course you are taxed on it. If you had been paid last year for them would you have paid taxes ? |

Unfortunately you have to pay tax and national insurance on holiday pay |

Depends!
I assume that what you are really saying is that you SHOULD have been paid for holiday time last year but were not, and now they are rectifying that mistake.
IF you are a youngster and last year your wages were below taxable level then rectifying a payroll error from last year should mean you should get the back pay untaxed.
IF however, you income last year exceeded the tax free level then had they paid you this money last year it WOULD have been taxed then and will be taxed now.
Holiday Pay is 'Pay' like any other and taxed like any other. |

of course you get taxed on everything you get in a year. Why not?? |

If the money should not have been taxed in your first year of employment, you shouldn't be paying tax on it.
Your best bet would be to fill in a Tax Reclaim Form which you can get from your local Post Office, or contact your Company's Payroll department.
You could also contact The HM Revenue and Customs.

Best of luck. |
