polkaface | I work for company as "self employed".They want me to start my own limited company to pay my wages? |
They said then I won't need to be paying tax, blah, blah, blah. They said its a legal loophole and that after 10 months i close the company and thats it, I will be left alone by tax man. Am i right thinking that it is bad for me in long run? |

do talk to someone about this - under rules IR35 you cannot set up as an limited co if you only work for one conmpany to close the loophole as mentioned above - please take advice before you do this - running a company will cost you money |

They are trying to get out of paying your benefits, but you will have to pay everything. |

They dont have your best interests at heart. They want to pay you the bare minimum they can get away with. Have they paid your NI stamps? i bet not. Have you? |

You could end up with a tax bill plus interest plus a late payment amount. You do not need to be a Ltd company if you are a sole trader and if as a sole trader you formed yourself into a Ltd company the alarm bells would ring with the HMRC and they would be checking you out. All you need to do is to present an invoice for payment and they must pay you gross. You then fill in a tax return after your first year and you will be given a tax bill to pay. |

They are right about them not havinig to pay taxes but you may have to, also what they are not telling you is they do not have to pay to the state employment dept. therfore you will not received employment benifts. Also they would not have to pay for worker comp insurence required if they have a certian number of independed contractors,You. good deal for them if you bite but leaves you on the hook... derference states dif. rules. research google workers comp by state luck to to you and two points to me |

What concerns me here is this "self employed" business. Neither employer or employee can decide this, certain criteria have to be met in either case.
I would suggest you contact your local tax office, and ask to have an appointment with an Inspector of Taxes, either the Status Inspector, or an Inspector expert in employer compliance. Then the implications can be explained to you. |

Dont listen to them, they only want you to be self employed so they dont have the responsibility of having you as an employee, they ahve to pay national insurance, holiday pay, sick pay, maternity pay etc if you're an employee, if you're subcontracting to them they dont have to pay anything over. It's rubbish, dont let them fool you into doing it, also they can just get rid of you if you arent an employee, if you are an employee they have to pay redundancy.. give notice.. honestly the pros of being 'employed' outweigh the cons. Being self employed is just hassle especially when there's no need to be. |

this sounds dodgy to me. You have to pay tax at some stage, regardless of whether you are self-employed or limited. Close the company in 10 months? Why? What will you do then? Sounds like a lot of administration and hassle involved. I'd speak to an accountant if I were you. |

Sounds very bad to me. If none of us paid tax the street lights wouldn't work and the roads would be full of holes and you would be in jail by the sound of it! |

you work for a company as self-employed; i thought the revenue had stopped this??..there seems to be a demonstrable master/servant relationship here..!!!....i hope they don't catch up with you..!! |
