I would like to do my own taxes this year. Is turbo tax user friendly and will it explain what to do?
I am really confused as to who I can claim, and what I can deduct as far as my kids go. They are both over 18. One of them just graduated high school in May and the other one is home with me too, but works full time and goes to college. I wish they could get out on their own, but not happening so far. They like the comfort of home and someone else buying the groceries and paying the bills here. My daughter works 1 day a week for minumum wage. She moved out for 4 months and had to come home or starve. Her boyfriend was not the great supporter she thought he would be. Should I try turbo tax?

Turbo tax is extremely easy to use.... and you can claim both of them because you are supporting them.

I have found it to be well worth the money. It handles all the intricacies that make you pay over 100 dollars at H&R block. Plus you can do it as you get the information. It couldn't be easier. They basically just ask you all the questions you need to know, just like a pro would do. Heck, I wouldn't be surprized if tax prep people wwere using it themselves and charging a markup.

Their deduction finder is great. It does a good job of helping you think of things that you might not think would be deductible.

It also saved me $800 last year by finding that my employer over-deducted the medicare tax.

A great tool!

We've been using Turbo Tax for about the last 6 years or better and have had no problems with it whatsoever. It is very user friendly - I am by no means any type of accountant, and even I can figure it out! Also, my dad (who IS an accountant) recently started using it, himself, because he found it easier to do his and other family members' taxes with it than when he was doing them himself, the old-fashioned way. Good luck!

You could try it, but I would really recommend seeing a tax professional. It's not that expensive, and most of them will guarantee support if you are audited. They are up on all rulings and deductions.

Your daughter is going to have to file as well.

I've used Turbo Tax and Tax Act both...I like Tax Act 'cause you can d/l it from their site. I think it's $12.95 for just Federal and $19.95 for state and fed and includes one e-file.

Yes just be sure to answer all of the child questions correctly. And buy state tax software too if you can find it.
