I would like to know if there is much hazard in giving my employer my account # for a direct deposit?
I called my bank and they said that the only way someone would be able to tamper with accounts is if he/she had a certain license to do this with the account info; and I could easily file a claim and everything can be traced.

Does anyone have much experience with direct deposit pay?

Yes, I have had direct deposit for at least the last 10 years, and have never had a problem with it. Payroll dept person would be in deep legal trouble if they had anything to do with stealing from your bank account.

Your bank is right, there is really no reason to worry about direct deposit. Almost every employee at my work uses direct deposits as it has benefits: the money is available in your account faster (no driving a check to the bank or waiting for it to clear to receive the entire amount). Also, the company benefits from not having to purchase stamps to mail every employee's check. I would highly recommend direct deposit.

I have been using direct deposit for MANY years with several different companies. I have NEVER had any problem. EVER.
Good for you for being cautious!

I used direct deposit for more than 30 years, several different employers, and never had any problems.

There are so many advantages. You don't have to worry about standing in line to deposit your check. Depending on your bank, the money might just be there a day before payday (my credit union did that) or it will at least be there on payday, ready to write checks against.

More and more employers are encouraging direct deposit as it saves money not processing paper checks.

A lot of places are going to direct deposit-companies,colleges,government agencies.A lot of times the employee doesn't have a choice if they want direct deposit, just the choice of where the money will be sent. It's the payroll of the future for probably most people.A lot of big companies don't even offer check stubs of any kind, and you have to look up your earnings and deductions on line. Where I work has been doing direct deposit for several years, and I've never heard of anyone having a problem.

I think you would be fine. You have got to be kidding with that question. Okay, dont' give it to them. I guess you wont' get direct deposit. Right?

Do you often wake up at night with sweats that are uncontrollable or seizures or think that someone is out to get you and wonder if the Govt is watching you too? hmmmmm

And PS we are an accounting firm and yes we do payroll and deal with Direct Deposit. And why did you even give them your social security card or even your name my good man. My gosh please take it back. Oh my goodness what have you done. Your identity is at stake man.

Have a great day.

I worked in HR for over 20 years. The people in our payroll department had access to that information. They have to - to be able to get your money in your account. But I never heard of an instance where that information was compromised and used inappropriately.

I don't see why it is a problem. I do payroll and we do direct deposit and I have had it several times. We can find out account numbers all the time, any check you get has an account number. We get back canceled checks so if you put your account number on the endorsement we can see it. Besides we know how little you are paid so wouldn't steal from you.
