IRS Tax Refund Delay?
I E-filed my taxes on Jan 19th. IRS initially said I should expect deposit on Jan 30. My mother and sister both received their refunds today, Jan 28 and we all filed the same day. Now the IRS says my expected refund date is Feb 19th....I DO NOT owe back taxes, no child support, no debt of any kind and yet they are apparently delaying my refund...when I called today (on hold for an hour) The IRS agent told me sometimes there are delays for no reason...is anyone else experiencing this same thing?? I'm upset because I need to purchase a new car ASAP....Thanks!!
Additional Details
I just called my credit union (Telhio Credit Union), and the banker states they compare the name on the IRS deposit with the bank account holder name to confirm they match..if not, they reject the deposit...not sure if other banks are now doing the same thing...this shouldn't affect me since I'm having my refund deposited to my own account

Did the same Sh*t to me.

turbotax e-filed and accepted 1/20 santa barb bank said dd would be done by 1/30 irs had it listed as feb 3.

Just got the same msg from the bank,

The IRS issues refund deposits each Friday, so your delayed deposit may not arrive until the following Friday. You may visit www.irs.gov to check the status of your refund.

The IRS did not deposit funds to your account as originally expected. The IRS usually makes refund deposits within 9 to 16 days, but your deposit was not received within that period of time. At times the IRS will delay a refund deposit by one week, so you may check back at this site seven days from now. If no deposit is made by then, you should contact the IRS. For more information on the status of your refund, we recommend you visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov and select the "Where's My Refund?" link. Thank you.

It hasn't even been 16 days so that immediately pissed me off.

checked irs and it changed from feb 3 to feb 24!!

Refund Status Results

We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Your expected refund date has been changed due to processing delays. You should receive your refund by February 24, 2009. Please wait until that date to contact us again because we cannot take any action until then. Thank you for your patience.

called irs and lady told me it has not even been processed yet.

wtf? like all I was counting on the cash.

guess it could be worse!! go read some of the H&R block filers who got delayed and have to pay interest and fees on loans they got declined for when the irs delayed the refunds!!

Thought I was alone. but guess not

I have the same going on, and the bank I'm working with is BankCorp. What I was wondering is if anyone is getting a smaller amount than expected for no reason. I was originally expected to see $7068, but irs is only showing the deposit amount as $4004.17. Also, since whan do they issue odd change? Seems to be quite a conundrum! Any ideas?

Same thing happened to us. We efiled for free through TaxAct on 1/21, who said we should expect our return via DD on 1/30, I double checked with IRS and they said 2/3, then yesterday it said to expect it on 2/10. It is quite a conundrum. We bought a house and claimed the $7,500 credit (that we have to pay back), but I didn't think it was going to cause a delay!

PJ
First, 2/3 is a Tuesday and the IRS only deposits on Fridays. The soonest a deposit would logically arrive then would be 2/6.

If the IRS says that it will deposit on 2/10 (Tuesday), then I would not expect to see the actual cash in account until 2/13.

I'm in the same boat. My job ended in late 2007, so my income took a nose dive, I NEED that money for mortgage.

Santa Barbara Bank sent me an email:

"SBB&T did not receive your IRS refund this week as expected.

We expected to receive your IRS refund on 01/30/2009. Since we only receive IRS deposits once a week, the next opportunity for us to receive your refund is one week past the expected funding date shown above. We will not have any additional information until that time."

IRS "Where's My Refund" said:

"Refund Status Results

We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Unless we find mistakes or you owe other taxes, you should receive your refund by February 10, 2009."

Again, "should receive" vs. "cash in account' could be very different dates.

teacupdarlene
I e-file using Turbo Tax on January 20th. I received an email on January 21st stating that I had been accepted. Turbo said to wait 72 hrs then check the IRS "Wheres my refund" I should have received DD on January 30th. I checked "Wheres my refund" today and it says that they have no information on me and to call. So I called and the lady said that it doesn't show any info and to call back in two weeks. Why does the IRS state that we should receive DD in a week, but then they say it takes up to three weeks for info to show up?

I just got the same information, too. First, said I will get my refund by Feb. 3rd now says Feb. 24th. What is going on? My e-filed my mother and aunts return on the same day and they are getting their money Jan. 30th. My return is larger this year due to EIC.

I just got the same crap. I expected my refund Feb 3, now it says Feb 24th. I need that money!!! What could be the reasons? how do u know if u are being audited???

christy d
My direct deposit was supposed to be here this morning, so I got up and checked with the bank, but it was not there. I checked on the irs website and my date had changed from (DD Jan 30th) Feb 3rd to Feb 10. I called the irs and the lady I spoke with said that what no one knows is that it can take up to 21 days from the day that your return was accepted to deposit your refund. She also said that they had to make a small correction to my return, however, I have noticed that alot of other people are saying the irs told them the same thing. I find it hard to believe that so many people needed corrections to their return. She said so many people filed early that this is what is causing the delay. So, I guess just expect your refund when the irs website says that you will receive it. It sucks, I didn't really want to wait another week.

Mr Slick
nope mine was supposedly deposited today but wasn't i might get tomorrow we will post answer if so

The delays are due to anyone that received a "stimulus refund" will be manually reviewed. If you filed efile it asked you how much you received and if you put an amount in there you will get audited to make sure the amount you put and the amount you acutally received are the same. This is because if you noticed if you put an amount in there your refund automatically jumped anywhere from $600 to $1000.00. I too was supposed to get my DD today and when I checked irs.gov it went from Feb 3 to Feb 10th. It has nothing to to with EIC. It is that stupid stimulus refund crap! So we all got excited to get that and now we are paying for it now. I too was beyond pissed to wake up and no money. We need it desperately. Looks like we all get to wait.

You and I are in the same source, honey. A customer service rep for irs told me they were experiencing so many problems from the stimulus check amounts that they have had to slow their process to make sure people are not claiming excess. "in return of opinion",she stated,"it would have been wise for someone to send out reminders how much people had recieved." (Looking around room as crickets chirp) AND THEY RUN THE COUNTRYS' FINANCES!!! Yikes! I am in the same boat as you, this money is desperately needed. I guess we should feel lucky we are getting anything at all, whenever it comes. Help me out here,I'm tryin!

Yes I believe that may be the case I have one child and claimed EIC but only got like a $184 credit for her since I am making more money that last year. I know this is not the case for everyone and people are struggling to keep up. It is the IRS way of waging war on the poor and lower middle class.
I hope they do not cahnge my date any further they changed it on Wed of this week(01/28/2009) from Feb 3 to Feb 10.
I say we take it out of the TARP that went to Wall Street fat cats that got bonuses with our tax money.
Keep saying this to yourself:
The Lord is my Shepard I shall not want.
God bless

Mine said January 30th. Wake up this morning, nothing.. Went to the irs.gov where's my refund and instead of January 30th it says it's been delayed until the 24th of February, MAJOR annoyance. I'm thinking it's because of the EIC, either way it sucks. If anyone has any luck figuring this out, please post..

My husband and I were supposed to receive ours today also...direct deposit into our bank....it is not there. The bank says it hasn't been received, and can't check with IRS til after Feb 4th. My mother's is at her bank, but shows only as a "pending transaction".....hmmmm

nancyd
Same thing happened to me. My refund status said 2/3 but SBBT said 1/30. The IRS always puts a few days after the deposit on their site to allow for the bank to process and deposit into your account. Well now the IRS site says mine has been delayed due to processing and I should receive it by 2/24. Talked to two different people at IRS who knew nothing.

Happy Mommy of Two
It's a glitch. A few people have received their refunds, however most, have not. A few banks approved the funds before the federal reserve actually released them. They are scheduled to actually transmit the "OK to release" on Thursday night/Friday morning, at midnight. Most people that had their tax return accepted by 11am on the 21st, will be receiving their refunds on Friday. Don't panic. Only a few more days.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me, too! I filed mine on Jan 19, as well and was told that they would deposit the money Jan 30 and I could expect to have the money no later than Feb 3. Now the irs website says no later than Feb 10!

It is so frustrating! We don't have any changes, my husband is still working at the same job, for the same pay, and we are claiming the same 4 children.....I was REALLY counting on this money being here, too! The part that is really irritating, is if it were reversed, like we were "delaying" our paying in....that would never fly!

I had the same problem. I filed for an assisted refund on the 21st and my ACH deposit was supposed to be the 30th (keep in mind today is the 29th), Irs site said to expect my refund by the 3rd. Wake up this morning, the bank site gave me this :

The IRS issues refund deposits each Friday, so your delayed deposit may not arrive until the following Friday. You may visit www.irs.gov to check the status of your refund.

and, i go to the IRS website and it says now that my refund will be received by the 10th. I called a rep (i did yesterday as well) and when they ask for my address to verify my identity today they had my ex husbands address listed (an address i have NEVER lived at!)..obviously between yesterday and today some glitch happened at the irs...i dont know what it is either, but its really upsetting. Im a single mom and I really really need my money...and the irs isnt giving me answers. The rep said she was instructed to tell people that the return processing takes up to 3 weeks and we may have to wait that long!

I Just woke up to the same thing as most of the people on here. I Used turbo tax to e-file, it was accepted that same day, said I should receive my refund by 1/30/09, but the IRS where's my refund said 2/3/09. Woke up this morning and checked my bank, refund not there. Checked the IRS where's my refund again and it said now my refund should be deposited by 2/10/09. Just go off the phone with the IRS, the man I spoke to said, they have been having a problem all week with the where's my refund, and basically said I can try back monday, but the way things have been going I probably won't get it til the 10th or later. They don't really have any answers, I have never had this problem, I've always gotten my refund early. I really needed that money today, and now I'm lookin at waiting 10 days or more.

Just spoke to Turbo tax, who gave me a chart that said I should have gotten my refund today, well alot of help that was, it just made me more mad. The women I spoke to there said she honestly believes I will be getting my refund very soon, and that this is the first day the IRS had deposited refunds into anyones accounts (which I don't believe) and that they do it every friday and to wait til next friday and it should be there. Thats easy for her to say, how can I believe it now since I was already told one day and it was changed, how do I know it won't change again? I had to stop payment on some of my bills that were set to be paid next week based on my refund coming, and now I'm all screwed up. THANK YOU IRS!

So I called the IRS again, (that hold music makes me want to scream) because now the "Where's my refund" says they have no record of my return. All this women could tell me is it can take up to 3 weeks to process a return and if I don't receive it by the 16th then I can call back. This is just so frustrating, I understand it can take up to 3 weeks, then they shouldn't say you can get your refund in 7-10 days on turbo tax. Last year I filed on the 30th and had my refund by the 9th, thats how it should be.

I just got off the phone with the IRS and I had the same:
Filed 1/19 Accepted 1/20 and was getting DD by 2/3
THEN today it said DD 1/23 call 1/28.
THE IRS SAID THEY SHOW MY DD GOING IN ON THE 1/30 AND THAT THERE IS A GLITCH WITH THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM.

Bank has no record of deposit yet...the irs will send it on 1.30.

Geez, apparently this is happening a lot. Mine was supposed to be in on the 30th, but got the same e-mail and message from SBBT, The IRS now says the 10th instead of the 3rd. SBBT says to look for it 1 week from today's date.

Sucks, but what can we do?

I have e filed the past 3 years, and not once have I had a problem. I am having the same problem as the rest of you. The dates have changed a couple of times, and my bank account showed no refund deposit today. I called the irs, and talked to a really nice lady that seemed to really care, I was expecting a rude person. I explained my situation. She took some info from me, then put me on hold for a short while. She told me that it is showing that there were no problems with my refund, that it was processed, and the date for DD is today, but it was showing that it had not gone out. She had no idea why, she was puzzled by it also. She did tell me that there have been glitches. She also told me that if I don't see it in my account by next Fri. the 6th, to call back so it could be looked into. She also mentioned that sometimes it does not even show up in your account till Sat. The irs releases refunds on Fridays. I alos spoke to someone at my bank ( I use Chase ) and she mentioned the same thing to me about it not showing till Sat. The where's my refund is showing the 10th which is a Tue. which is a bogus date. If you don't recieve your refund today or tomorrow, you have no choice but to wait till next Fri. If you don't see in your account then, call the irs.

My taxes were accepted by the IRS on the 21st, the first time I checked it said Feb. 3rd to expect my refund. Today it says it was deposited on 1-23 and should have been there by today. Called the bank they have no record of it, IDK what to do next. At first I thought it was the bank because Wells Fargo is the next thing in my life I'm getting rid of, their system, rules and regulations are horrible. They will cheat you out of anything they can especially when it comes to their fees they charge for nonsense stuff. IDK where to go now, IRS says my call will be answered in 15 min and I was on hold for 45 min without a single person comin on the line.

Big Slick Graffix
Mine was accepted on 1/17 and I got delayed until 2/10 just like you all have experienced. I finally got a decent answer from someone at the IRS. Her name was Mrs. Gibson, and she explained to me that due to the extremely high volume of returns that were filed and some glitches from the stimulus payment, refunds got delayed. She further explained to me that she believed the IRS was going through them in alphabetical order. I then researched this and found that my neighbors and friends that last names started with B, D, and G, got their refunds. My other friends, along with myself, did not get ours and got delayed until 2/10. Our last names start with L, M, P, and S. I don't know if she is correct or not, but it certainly seems plausible to me. It is crap as I believe they should have gone on accepted date, but it is what it is and we all seem to be at the mercy of the Government(as usual).
