IRS question about a letter I rec'd..Please read!!?
When I rec'd all my documents from my job to do my taxes (i did the 1040ez), at first I was going to do it online, but decided to do it myself usuing the form and mail it in. I did it early and rec'd my rebate like 3 weeks later. A week ago I got a letter from the IRS saying they are missing my sheet from when I was doing it online...But I didn't go through with using the computer instead did it myself. So three months ago i got my refund so I was assuming everytings Okay. Then this letter comes and it concerns me..They already gave me my refund!! Its very hard for me to call the IRS because i don't have time to hold on for 2 hours. I called last night for two hours and was on hold. Do I have to contact them? I was assuming it was okay...I just NEED my stimulis check and don't want this problem stopping it..If they already mailed me my refund, do i have to worry?

If the letter is asking for a form 8453, you *did* file online.
The number for the form would have been in the email confirmations that you didn't read. Your paper return would have been seen as a duplicate submission. If it matched the tax return you field, it would haven't delayed your refund (but it would delay the stimulus).

Chances are, if you are getting a stimulus check, the missing 8453 won't delay it. But you DO need to get the form (available online), fill in the DCN (from those emails) and send it in since technically your tax return was incomplete without it.

Did you start to do it online, then not finish it that way and mailed it in instead? Maybe you got further along than you think you did, and actually submitted it online. What they are looking for is a signature sheet that would have come out of the online system right at the end - maybe you stopped before that and never got that page to sign and send in.

This probably wouldn't hold up your stimulus check, but could affect whether you were allowed to file online in future years, so you need to get it straightened out. If you can't get through on the phone, and with the rebate calls it's almost impossible these days, I'd make a copy of the letter, write a note explaining what you did, and mail it back to them with a copy of your 1040EZ.

Good luck.

It appears that the IRS has processed the return you did online. The return you mailed in was a duplicate return and disregarded. You should get the form, fill it out, and mail it in. It is just a signature sheet. Just do as they ask and not worry.

Your stimulus check will not be affected by this.

Write them a very nice letter stating your actions involving the computer then switching instead to written. Enclose another copy of your mailed return explaining that you received your refund. Make sure that a copy of what they say is missing from the computer return is included with the one that you mailed. Also make sure that you use their reference numbers at the top of their letter on your letter. Fortunately, this will usually take care of it, but unfortunately, it will take about 6 weeks. You should receive further correspondence from them but their letter to you probably says that they have at least 30 days from the date of your letter to respond, then they have to mail it, etc. Hope this helps. And btw, pay attention to the "Really Nice" part.

Does the letter say you owe them money or what do they want from you? Maybe they think you submitted a 2nd return and are notifying you they sent you your refund already. You said you got it. The stimulus payments for those who mail in returns go out in July I believe.

OFFICER SEXY PEACH
sorry, but your question is confusing me...

the rebate and stimulus rebate check are one and the same.
are you saying you got your federal refund and not the stimulus rebate and is afraid that since the irs sent you aletter requesting a form that you won't receive it?since they've sent your refund even though you didn't send the form i'd think everything was ok also, but to reassure yourself you'll have to talk to the irs (make time to do so somehow).

Did you keep a copy of your written return? Call the IRS (I know the wait can sometimes be long but don't let the matter drag on) and explain what happened. I've had to deal with the IRS on a few occasions and found them to be very helpful, although I'm sure there are others that have had different experiences.
Hopefully you did keep a copy of your written return.

lady_em_2001
Well this is what I would do.....cuz we are talking about the government and red tape etc. Make copies of your tax return and check stub if you still have it. Write a cover letter stating that you did NOT do your taxes on-line. Mail it off and forget about it.

Write them a letter explaining that you filed and how you filed, just as you did in this post. Send copies of your 1040ez and be sure to keep copies of your letter and everything you send them. It would be best to send certified mail that way you have proof of delivery. I wouldn't worry about anything, you've done nothing wrong.

Good Luck To You
