Mrs. Robinson | IRS rebate? |
Does anyone know if this is a rebate OR an advanced payment. if you recall, bushes first year in office, we all got a "rebate". however, it turned out to be an ADVANCED payment based on the next years taxes, and in turn, had to be reported as income. i ended up oweing money that year because of that "rebate" we were givin. |

Not this time.
The rebate will not effect your 2008 federal tax liability or refund. The law says the IRS can't recover any extra rebate payment by reducing your 2008 refund or adding to your 2008 tax bill.
The "rebate" is an advance credit against your 2008 tax return (which will be filed in 2009). However, it is calculated based on the amounts shown on your 2007 return. When you file your 2008 return, the IRS will recalculate your "rebate" based on the 2008 amounts. If this results in a larger "rebate", you will receive a check for the difference. If this results in a smaller rebate, you will not have to repay the difference.
The "rebate" will not increase or decrease any tax refund to which you are entitled. It is an additional refund. |

I believe the purpose of this "rebate" is to go and spend it in an attempt to boost the economy.Personally, i think he should worry less about what we buy, and worry about how much is spent on imports. Start putting out more exports to even it up some. he's a knuckel head! However, i'll take take the cash. tee hee. |

For 2008 there is a one-time tax cut for income in the 10% bracket - the rebate is an advance on that. If your rebate is more than the tax cut would have given you, you don't have to pay back the extra. so your refund next year will be the same as it would have been if there had been no stimulus bill (no tax cut, and no rebate). |

It's a rebate for next year, being advanced this year. You do not pay it back. |

Regardless, it is a government handout, and our grandchildren wil be paying for it, because the government has been broke since Reagan. The government debt is so large that they can't even count it correctly. Sending people money is an attempt to diffuse our growing anger toward the president and congress who steadfastly refuse to abide by the will of the American people.
And anyone who believes that anything will change when one of the parasites running for the presidency is elected, is a fool.
Bush may be the worst president in history, and the next one is likely to be even worse. Be honest. In your lifetime, viewed as a trend, haven't they grown progressively worse?
People who still cling to political parties are killing America. The political parties do not represent us.
We are still paying for Korea and Viet Nam. We still have troops in Europe because of WWII. We make movies, export food, and police the world, and not much more.
I told my son, "Bush is sending us some money, you are going to have to pay it back." He likes the government already. |

some bd answers there
The Stimlus Package is a one time payment to you. You do not have to pay it back. It is 100% tax free of federal tax. Currentlt it is 100% tax free of all state taxes. Some state may decide to tax it, though I think that is unlikely.
BTW the previous rebate was not "taxable" it was an advance on the next years refund. If you had a small refund due, it could put you in a position where you had to pay cash part of it back. The net result for ALL taxpayer was even. They gace you some money, and you gave ack the same.
This money is different. No repayment. |
