If I am claimed as a dependant will I get an Economic Stimulus Check?
I'm 22 and I work full time. I earned well over the $3000.00 mark but my parents still claim me as a dependant since I live at home. When my parents frist received their info from the IRS about the stimulus checks I also received the same info addressed to me so I was wondering if I will get a check because I have read that I won't.

If you can be claimed as a dependent, you are not eligible for the stimulus payment.

However, it's not immediately obvious that you can be claimed as a dependent from your posting. If you were not a full-time student in 2007 your parents cannot claim you as a dependent under the Qualifying Child rule. They might be able to claim you under the Qualifying Relative rule IF you earned LESS than $3,400 in 2007 and received more than half of your support from them.

If you can NOT be claimed as a dependent, then you should file your personal return and claim your personal exemption or amend your return if you already filed. The IRS will then investigate your parents' claim and award the exemptions according to the law. If then cannot claim you legally then you ARE entitled to a stimulus plan rebate.

the way the stimulus works is a bunch of bull. i worked 25-30 hours a week, also made about 10,000 dollars, i go to school full time, and i started to live on my own at the beginning of the school, but because my parents claimed me i wont get the money that i am entitled to. why did i also get a letter in the mail if i don't get a check? i know someone who was claimed by her parents and she still got a check.

Parents won't receive any extra for you, they will get their flat 1200. They say you won't get any, but wait it out and see. If you do then great. If not, it was a freebie and unfortunately you just lost out.

Only way to keep your parents from claiming you is to move out.

Your parents will have to give you some of their moneys.
