Yes. On leaving the country you should declare valuables likely to be taxed on your return. If you do not do so you have to prove the item was purchased (ie in your possession) before leaving the country. If you cannot you are liable for duty. The onus is on you, unlike a court of law when you are innocent until proven guilty. |

Yes you would have to declare it, if you go through the green channel not having done so you risk a fine & or having it confiscated. If it's gold they will be able to tell country of origin due to hallmarks. Other expensive jewelery will also have identifying things to show it's country of origin that may not be noticed by an untrained person, but customs are especially trained in this sort of thing. |

Oh yes! Fail to do so, get caught and the trouble starts.
H M Customs has plenty of experts who can value articles and they are not fools. The pieces will not have UK hall marks presumably so that would indicate that they were made abroad. If you cannot show that the piece was not bought abroad it may be detained until you can do so. If you are caught smuggling the very least that will happen is that it will be seized.
If you did buy expensive pieces in UK it would be a good idea to carry the receipt. |

Wear the jewellery through customs & post the receipt/paperwork to yourself at home. If it's worth a lot of money get it valued in your local jewellers for insurance & insure it straight away. |

just put in on, how the hell can they tell if you have bought it over there or if you originally went out with it! Post any paper work to your home! |

how could they prove you had not taken it with you in the first place. |

You used to have to, unless things have changed recently. I used to wear it, and never got stopped |

Depends how honest you are. If it was extremely expensive, you could declare it at customs, or - wear it, they can't prove you didn't buy it somewhere else. |
