If I don't file a tax return, will I still get the tax rebate?
I'm on disability and haven't filed a tax return since I've started getting social security, because I've haven't made enough to file. Am I still eligible to get the rebate, or do I have to file to get it?

According to this article...
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/stimulus-package-means-family-five/story.aspx?guid=%7B4454B388-810A-4F03-9E29-CFB6D9601533%7D
"The rebates would be based on taxpayers' 2007 tax return. Those who file extensions or file late would likely receive their checks later than regular filers, according to a U.S. Treasury spokesman. The checks will be sent out automatically; you don't need to apply."

Last night I got an email alert to the effect that if you have income of $3000 for the year even if it is from Social Security (or I would assume disability also) you will receive a $300 rebate. I don't know how accurate the info is, but that came across on Yahoo!Alerts.

It clearly said working people,I think your out of luck

borealtroll
you have to file or your money goes straight to the IRS.

Once you do this one time, it can become automatic in years ahead- you can set up a tax-free W2 after that.

You have to file to get it

I believe you still have to file a form to request your rebate. I think the actual form triggers the refund process.

redgator40
have to file taxes. you are supposed to file taxes even if you get SSDI.

Only taxpayers are getting a rebate. If you don't pay into the system you don't deserve to get anything back.
