Yes. Just don't file it until April 15th. If you owe, why would you pay early and give them the interest?

You can file the return early in Jan. when the return forms are released and pay any taxes due by April 15 as allowed in the US tax code.

Yes, you can file and wait until April 15 to pay. The IRS does not start to charge the Failure to Pay Penalty until after the due date of the return, which is April 15.

You will not be assessed a failure to pay penalty if you pay by April 15. However, if your balance due is more than $1,000, you will be assessed a penalty based on interest charged from January 1, not April 15.
