. . . .then you better come up with half the amount and enter into a payment plan with IRS. . . start saving NOW. . .you have until 4/15 to start paying. . .good that you're thinking ahead. . .you got the benefit of the money, bank got less than it loaned you, you owe. . .
IRS will chase you down, so better to deal with them and minimize the costs of penalties and interest
EDIT: Scully is WRONG--an extension is an extension of time in which to file NOT an extension of time in which to pay |

Then you will be in trouble. The forgiven debt is considered taxable income. |

Then you'll owe them, and interest and penalties will keep accumulating, so try to set up a payment plan and get it paid off as quickly as possible. |

You are going to need to see a tax preparer. 1099 C is taxable if it is a recourse loan only. If this is the original acquisition debt then it is most likely a nonrecourse loan. If it has been refied then it may be partially taxable. There are too many factors to put here. Is this a debt that you could walk away from and they would only take the property? |

You'll have to make payment plans with the IRS. There are a ton of changes happening. Don't worry about it till ya get 1099'd |

You will probably be okay--after all, you will have a loss on the property and unlike the sale of your home, that loss *is* deductible.

File an extension, this has to be done by Apr 15,
bottom line you have to pay it.. You may be able to work out a payment plan with the IRS |
