cac121668 | If I give $50 weekly to my local church, how do I claim that without a receipt from them? |

Under the IRS Regulations, Substantiation is viewed on a single contribution. Since you have made 52 $50 contributions, you fall under the "under $250" rule. You can rely on a canceled check, a receipt from the church, or "other reliable written records". As long as you have the canceled checks (or can get them in the event of an audit), you can claim the deduction. |

Start writing them checks. You've got the proof right there and keep your bank statements. |

You can claim the charitable contribution, but if you are audited by the IRS, you would have to be able to prove that you made those contributions. In the future, make the weekly contribution by check rather than by cash. |

You can't. You need a receipt for all tax deductions. Sorry. Most churches have a way of doing this, though... you should check into it. |

You don't send in your receipts, but if you are audited you will need them. Most churches can tally up what your tithings are and give you a receipt. You may just have to ask your pastor for one. |

If you are rich enough to afford to give $50.00 a week to a church, you probably don't need to worry about getting the deduction. |

Charitable contributions in cash are limited to 50% of your adjusted gross income (line item on your tax return). As long as the Church you listed is recognized as a charity by the IRS, and you contributions dont exceed that amount, the IRS usually won't question you. Include the full name of the church in the charitable contributions section of your schedule A and you should be fine |

The church will give you a receipt at the end of the year, don't put the money in the basket, use an envelope and the church keeps up with it !! |
