"Single 1" on your W-4 should do it for you, unless there is something unusual about your finances. If this is what you've been withholding and you still owe a bunch, then reduce your allowances to "Single 0."

Update: If you're paying just a little, that's fine. It's better to pay a little than to get a big refund.

Your federal income tax will be around $7100 unless you have some deductions or credits you didn't mention. If you have that much withheld, you shouldn't owe additional federal income tax when you file.

A little over 40,000.

If you are not self employed or own your own business, then consider a home business.

You can claim up to 10,000 in losses, but your first year would most likely start off claiming about 3,000.

Because your writing off 40% of phone bill, mileage of your car and any equipment like computer and tools or a portion of your electrical/power bill.

Get an LLC.

Get a DBA.

You should amend your W-4 to show no exemptions, even yourself. Doing it this way will result in getting a refund back every year.

It depends on your filing status, whether you itemize deductions, whether you have other income... it depends on information you didn't provide.

On your W-4, are you claiming anyone?

Go to your HR dept. and ask for a, I think it's called F4 form, fill it out, you should have filled one out when you started. Claim status (1), you should then GET money back at the end of the year. Unless you're self employed, or a sub contractor, etc... Then get an accountant, WELL worth the money.

I have them take 50 extra for State and Federal and I am always alright in April.

you have 2 options

have your w-2 to reflect 0 exemptions (they will take LOTS of taxes out of your check) and when you file your taxes claim yourself

other option is to claim dependents at the end when you file your taxes (which isn't much of an option because you said you have no dependents).....
