No. You pay taxes according to how much (Income) you have made for the year. There are alot of funny calculations in the tax code, however; (the amount of hours you work does not in any way reduce your tax liability).
Perhaps what is going on is that your employer is giving you the option to work "off the books". That doesn't mean that you don't have to pay taxes. You still have to pay taxes, but most people don't pay taxes on (cash basis income). That doesn't make it (acceptable), but that's the reality of things. You can be honest and pay your share, or pray you don't get in serious trouble.
I'm not going to waste my time talking about your boss if this is in fact the case.
I hope this was helpful. Remember, the form of income makes no difference to the IRS, (Cash, Check, Dimonds, Gold, etc.) is all income that must be reported & properly taxed. Best of Luck on your new job! |

taxed till i die,

It is not the hours ,It is the amount you get that is taxed. |

Depends..what is your tax code? |

You're tax depends on how much you earn, I think. |

It depends on how much you earn, and what your tax code is.
For most people this year the tax code is 522L.
This mean you can earn £5220 before paying any tax.
You then pay 10% tax on anything between £5220 and the next limit (which I think is about £7200, but I'm not 100%)
Then 20% after that until you get to the higher limit, everything after that is 40% (but you have to be earning big bucks to meet that)
So, yes you probably will pay tax, but prob not that much |

In the UK, the average personal tax allowance is £4,000 per year. That means, you can earn up to £4,000 in any one tax year (1 Apr - 31 Mar) before you pay tax. Check with your local tax office to find out what your personal tax code is and how much your personal allowance is. For a single person, it is likely to be around the £4,000 mark. |

It does not depend on your hours but on your salary. If it is less than 5035 pounds then you have to pay nothing as every individual is entitled to personal allowance of 5035 pounds a year.If you earn more than 5035 pounds then definitely you have to pay more as you earn more. |

i wouldn't think you would pay any tax on that amount of hours. |

you will still pay taxes on what you earn for the year. but as long as you work you will pay taxes on the money you earn from your employer. |

Tax payable is pro rata to your earnings, ie the more you earn the more tax you pay, although there is a baseline beneath which you will not pay any tax
Consult your local Inland Revenue office for advice. |

Less than what?
If you earn more, you pay more.
If you work 12 hours at £250ph you'll pay more tax than if you earned £25ph, but you'll also earn more. |

It doesn't matter what hours you work it is the amount you earn for those hours. You have to pay 11% national insurance on earnings then the rest above £5225 (your personal tax allowance) is taxed at 10% for the first £2230 then at 22% up to £34600 and 40% on anything above that |
