If I open a bank account in another country and get my wadges payed into that account do i have to pay taxes?
I am from the UK but my new small online business is based in the USA. I was wondering if I open up a bank account in Florida (where there is no income tax) would I be able to get away with it? as I am living in the UK? or is it illegal?

No, you can't get away with it. Your employer is obliged by law to operate PAYE, wherever money is banked.
The only way you could get wages gross would be to become a citizen of the USA, and live there. But I guess then you wouldn't be able to earn your UK wage. You would also be taxed in the USA, and suffer a regular currency conversion fee.

MadMan
Where do you live? If you live in the UK, you owe British taxes no matter where you have the money deposited. You might also owe US taxes as well. BTW, there is no STATE income tax in Florida but there is still Federal income tax.

illegal im afraid - you may be required to complete a self assessment form with a foreign income page.

I don't know how the UK laws work, but would be very surprised if you could do this without being subject to UK taxes, and maybe some US tax too. If your business is based in the US, you are almost surely subject to US taxes. And you mentioned FL in your other question - FL doesn't have a STATE income tax, that doesn't mean no income tax, there's still federal tax

Think you have to leave it all in Florida and not bring any back to UK Why else do millionaires have to live abroad for most of the year to get tax exemptions I would check this out with a tax expert ,,

In all probability, your business would need to be registered in Florida, and there is a fee for that. You also need a tax ID # to open a bank account. Personal accounts use social security #s.
There is no state income tax in Florida, but Federal income Tax must be paid.
You really need a tax specialist to see how much if any money you will save. The banking regulations have been tightened in the last few years, so I would make sure everything is legal.

If your income is generated in Florida it would make sense to bank there. You are going to meet obstacles when you try and move the cash to the UK. The banking laws are designed to stop money laundering so you would have to account from where your income comes and once you do that the Revenue will get their hooks into you.

sounds like a good idea but if it was possible many would have done that by now!!

raysor
Of course you do. If you are UK resident (UK domiciled) you pay UK taxes.

COLIN T
Strictly illegal. If you are resident in the UK it does not matter where your income comes from you have to pay UK tax. there are some nasty penalties for tax evasion.

What are wadges?
