If I owe about 1300 due to an error on my 2007 federal return what will happen if I file my taxes at HR block?
will HR block or any other tax preparer already have on file that I owe this amount of money, I just got the notice in the mail and I would rather just make a payment arraignment to pay off what I owe as I really need my entire return

Unless you have the whole amount paid off, they'll keep youre refund and apply it to what you owe. Being on a payment plan won't change that. If your refund is more than what you owe, then you'll get the rest of it, but it will be delayed while they do the offset.

If you just got a notice that you owed, and it didn't show on the return when you filed it, there's a chance that it's not set up for offset yet. But you can't control that part.

If you try to get an RAL through Block, yes they'll check and see that you owe back taxes and you won't be eligible for the loan.

Regardless of where your return is prepared for 2008, your refund will be seized and put towards the balance due for 2007. There is no way to avoid that.

IRS will automatically offset any refund from your 2008 return to what you owe. There is nothing you can do about this. It will be in your best interest to file your 2008 return as early as possible because your refund will be credited to what you owe as of the date the return is processed or April 15, whichever is later. You will save on interest and late payment penalty by having the return processed early.

It would cost you $105 as a processing fee to set up a payment agreement. For what you will owe after getting a 2008 refund, it isn't worth it.

It doesnt matter who does your taxes. If the IRS garnishes your check it will happen no matter what. HR Block is not the one withholding the money.

Tell H&R Block about it. but I think each year is a seperate issue. The IRS will let you make payments if you ask.

In your own interest pay the IRS dues first.

If it's an error your tax preparer should be able to get the error corrected I don't have specifics on the error but HR Block should be able to help you.

I got a similar notice earlier this month. The govt. is really hungry for money with all the bailouts. I would just pay it off directly & as soon as possible because the interest & penalties accrue daily. The IRS are crooks as we all know.
