Tim, the answer depends on: 1) how much you earned & 2) whether or not taxes were withheld from your paychecks. The IRS requires folks to file a return if they've earned a certain amount. For ex, last year, anyone in your position who earned more than $5000 was required to file (assuming your mother claimed YOU as an exemption in 2005).
So, you may or may not be "required" to file, but chances are you probably do--BECAUSE your employers took $$ out of each & every paycheck AND the only way you'll get that back is to file a return.
Now, most people honestly put tax filing in the same category as walking on hot coals but **it is abso-POSIlutely NOT true!!** And please, PLEASE do not feel you have to pay someone to do your taxes for you.
Here is an IRS website that truly makes tax filing easy! (Note: state websites do that same thing--just check!!) This service is FREE if your adjusted gross income is less than $35,000--completes your 1040 based on the answers you provide to the questions you are asked. And if that is fantastic enough, you can e-file your return for FREE! And if you're getting a refund--and have a checking or savings account--it will be directly deposited there in NO time after you provide the routing and account number. How cool is that?

Here it is: http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html
Best wishes & happy filing

You probably don't need to file because your income is probably under the required amount to file. But, if you do file, you will probably get money back. Get a 1040EZ form. Make sure its EZ. Also get the booklet that goes with it. You can get it at the post office or library. Wait for them to mail your w-2's. And just fill out the form step by step. The booklet will help you with any problems you have. It's extremely easy. I was dong my own taxes at age 15. And you'll be happy you did when you get your refund.

lordtaylor
yes, but you should be able to get everything back that you paid in

Dale B
yes but in the US you must file before April 15th. You will probably get a return, meaning some of your money will come back to you. If so file it as soon as possible early Febuary. If not wait and you owe some tax pay it april 15th. Just get your check in the mail by then

Yes you have to file taxes unless your total gross income for the year was less then I believe 400 dollars. You'll probably get some if not all your money back. Just make sure you file before April 15. I just file as soon as I get my W2 it's easier that way.

that_gemini_girl
You do need to file taxes under your mother though as long as you are still her dependent and it sounds like you are.

If you get a W-2 or a 1099, you'd better file a tax return!

The IRS has no sense of humor.
