They must be in the mail by January 31st. They don't have to give it directly to you but they must mail it out by Jan 31.
You should wait at least a week for delivery. If you haven't received it by Feb 14th, contact the employer. If they balk, you can contact the IRS who will investigate the matter. |

It is the federal law that they give a W-2 or 1099 postmarked by the post office no later than Jan. 31. The laws are different if you made less than $600 I think but I'm not positive on that number. |

If I'm not mistaken you're supposed to receive your W2 from your employer by January 15 (allow for holidays and weekends) and if you don't receive one then contact your employer (phone or letter) and request that. If people don't get theirs it's usually because somehow it got lost in the mail, got sent to the wrong address, or the person changed their address. yes, anyone who worked for them during they year they will send a W2 to. |
