Yes.
File the return, and ask for an installment agreement. There is a fee for the installment agreement ($105 the last time I checked, but reduced for direct debit).
There is a failure to file penalty, and a failure to pay penalty. That is why it is a good idea to file, even if you can't pay. |

You need to deal with this ASAP. The fees and penalties grow quite fast. A small amount can turn into thousands. |

You should file the return prior to Oct 15th. That will give you the opportunity to e-file. You can set up a payment plan and get yourself on track to take care of this matter. ignoring it will be very costly in the long run. |

The longer you wait, the more you owe. . . penalties and interest. . . File your return quickly--before 10/15, can efile. Send part of taxes owed (half is good) and request a payment plan. . .should have done that at time, and it would have been paid off by now. . . .doing nothing increases chances of severe consequences to you. . . . |

You must file your tax return if your income exceeds the filing requirement. If on a past return you owe tax, you will pay it with interest and penalty.

File ASAP, even if it was not a large amount penalties and interest can more than double that amount. Sometimes it takes over a year for the IRS to finally contact you about it and by that time your tax amount owed has more than doubled.
It can very easily be cleared up without severe consequences, if you file the IRS will gladly setup an payment plan for you and you can pay off the amount overtime.
Read here on payment plans with the IRS. The IRS will allow you hirey back the amount owed in small and manageable monthly payments until the amount is payed off in full. The quicker you pay it off the better because interest still gets added on the longer it takes you to pay.

file now! before IRS files for you. You can always request an installment agreement for the amount you owe. IRS accepts as little as $25.00 for balances up to $1,499.00. Download form 9465 Installment agreement request from the IRS website
It is always better for you to file your own return than having IRS file for you, if you ignore IRS the there is severe consequences, such as IRS filing for you at a higher tax rate, IRS issuing levy for your wages etc
Call IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or visit your local IRS office for assistance. |

Please let me explain that you always want to file even if you can not pay the tax liability. There are two penalties the IRS puts on unfiled returns, Failure to File and Failure to Pay. These two penalties max out at 25 percent with interest being charged on the tax liability and the penalty. When you get both penalties the IRS computes the penalties at the rate of 5 percent a month. If you file and only get the Failure to Pay penality the IRS computes the penalty at half a percent a month.
File the return. Even if it has been more than three years you will still get credit for any withholding credits for that year. They may not be refundable to you if the year is over 3 year old, but at least you will get the credit. If you still owe after you file your return, if you can't pay the tax, write a note stating that you would like an Installment Agreement and the amount you can pay each month. If your monthly payment amount will full pay the account off in 3 to 5 years the IRS will usually accept your request. If the monthly payment will not full pay the account in the 3 to 5 years, the IRS will contact you by mail. |

Definitely get filed ASAP even if you cannot pay. There are penalties for both not filing and not paying. Right now you are accumulating both. If you at least file, you turn off the failure to file penalty. You can ask for an installment when you file, or you can just file and not send in any money. They will respond by sending you an installment request to fill out. Even better, when you do file, send in what you can, even if it is just $20 to show your good faith. And relax, you are not in any significant trouble if you take care of this in a timely fashion, so forget the severe consequences. |
