yes because the child support still goes to the parent that you needed to pay the child support to when the kid was under 18.....there arent any new charges these are old ones... |

The age of the child is irrelevant. It is the delinquent child support itself that is important. Being so delinquent that the child has grown up does not make it excusable, it makes it more inexcusable. |

.♥.when will it rain

Yes, it doesn't matter how old the child is. If child support is owed, the state you are in can/will withhold the refund and and take away other privileges, according to state law. |

yep especially if you get a lawyer that is the money it costs to help raise the child |

I think so... if there are arrearages(sorry if spelled wrong) the state would want that to get to you... Im 22 and when my mom passed away, my brothers dad is still paying his arrears(and my brother is 27) the childsupport is just split between me and my siblings... |

Sorry once the kid turns 21 there aint much you can do. My father was awesome but never once paid child support and once we turned 21 the courts told my mom to leave them alone there was no more they could do at that point even tho he owed from years before. Sorry!!! |

No, the only arrears that are subject to tax offset are arrears owed to minor children. While you still owe the child support, your refund won't be intercepted for past due support. As for whoever gave me 2 thumbs down, it's funny, I RECEIVE child support....and actually KNOW what I;m talking about. How many of you actually receive child support????If you go onto a child support website, it states that arrears owed for children over 18 are NOT subject to tax offset.Fair or not, it's the way the law is set up.This is NOT my opinion, it's fact. |
