Lisa T | If everyone gave up smoking? |
What would they put the tax onto that they put on cigerettes. Cigerettes have the highest added duty tax, so the government would have to recoup the money else where. So what do you think they will heavily tax instead? |
|

only me
 |
my folks always say there is 3 types of people that keep this country going.....smokers....drinkers and drivers...all pay heavey tax..and now we are being told where we can and cant smoke...how much we can drink and where and when to use our cars....and i thought this was a free country....least the air is still free......god thats where the taxs might go on to next.... |

You're correct. The government depends on the revenue they get from cigs. That's why it's so hypocritical for them to use tax money to tell people not to smoke while collecting money from people that buy them to smoke. The fact is, the government wants people to smoke. They need people to smoke. Let's face it; if they really didn't want people to smoke they would ban it. Right? |

Hypothetically speaking, if everybody stopped smoking, they would become healthier. Health insurance costs would plummet and American businesses would save money. They would then take that money and invest it in their business, which would grow the economy. The government should recover more than what it losses on duty-tax with income taxes. |

FAG TAX IS ...... THE NHS, OK SOMKING RELATED ILLNESS'ES MAY DROP BUT THAT ISNT THE MINORITY OF WHOM DO USE THE NHS, SO LOOKING AT THIS IN A MORE LOGICAL WAY THERE WOULD BE A WHOLE LOT LESS IN THE WAY OF FUNDING GOING TO THE NHS, BUT STILL AN EXTERMLY HIGH USAGE OF THE SERVICE..... SO FOR NOW IAM GONNA CARRY ON DOING MY BIT BY HELPING TO FUND THE NHS AN CONTINUING TO PAY THE TAX ON THE CIGS I SMOKE.... |

It certainly would not be whiskey, the rate the ex-chancellor was supping it at a budget. Yes lets ban ALL tobacco just to please ASH, then they can pay, for all alcohol related injuries and diseases, and drug addicts diseases and related problems, plus freebies ie. methadone, nice junkie currency that, and still wonder WHY so called smoking related diseases aren't dropping? |

they will tax anything that creates any kind of fun in people's lives and somehow does not contribute anything else (unlike exercise). so yeah smoking drinking gambling good food coffee (or caffeine) restaurants sex toys driving sports cars/bikes/snowmobiles/jetskis drugs(if they ever become legal) television (couch potato tax lol) and it will continue until people will get so pissed off that there will be another civil war lol |

Alcohol! The governments are all hypocrites, as, without the revenue from smoking taxes they would be so in debt we would become a Third World country! |

If everyone gave up smoking the government would be better off. The loss in revenue would be more than compensated by the savings in the NHS. |

Everything else that causes self harm, so alcohol for one. |

Yes, but hopefully the money saved by the NHS would counter that |

loads of money would be saved by not having smoke related illnesses in hospitals. the world would be far healthier. if everyone stopped smoking , drinking ,and driving cars we could really mess up the government. shall we try it? |
