Well, that sort of happens when the price goes up unless the demand goes up or the supply goes down.
When you grow food rather than paying taxes on getting food in other ways, you increase the supply which helps the overall price go down. It is a good way to help stabilize the price.
Unless the governement is doing something that lowers the price more than their taxes that they add on less pepole will buy whatever it is.
Depending on how your supply demand curves look like the government might take in more money by lowering taxes if it lowers the price of the items. However the government doesn't and shouldn't have the finaly say of what the price is. |

Edit:- Ok so we could grow our own food, but how would we not pay the increased interest rates on our mortgages without losing our houses, how would we have light, electricity, water etc. without paying our bills? |

edit - unless we are going to go back to a feudal system then it wouldnt work, there isnt the land available for us all to grow our own food, then what about clothes, water, fuel, medicine? |

thats kind of impossible, you can't live without the things they are taxing, the only way is to vote with your feet and leave the country, if enough people left then they'd have to lower the taxes to make the country a more attractive place to live |

If you refused to pay your taxes you'd go to prison. We live in a democracy, which means that even though we don't agree with something from the government, they are our elected leaders and their decisions are valid. If you wish to change something you have to operate within the law with protests, petitions and so on. In the meantime you have to keep paying! Until, that is, you could change the government through the ballot box. It's called collective responsibility. |
