The biggest loss to the government would be due to the increase in life. The retired folks would live longer thus costing the government trillions of dollars to provide health benefits for all the extra years the old folks will live.It would most likely also bankrupt quite a few pension plans.As for taxes skyrocketing they are going to do that anyway since we most likely have a democrat for president after Bush. |

I don't know about the government, but the person that quits has a lot to lose. Possibly heart disease, emphysema, lung cancer, throat cancer, respiratory problems, etc. These would all be nice things to lose. |

So you think we should drink and smoke to support the government? Well, why don't they just legalize all drugs, put a heavy tax on them, and then we can pay for wars all over the world with tax revenue. You are forgetting that American tobacco makes more money off of cigarettes sold overseas than sold in the USA, and they pay taxes on that. And we should all have bad health side affects from cigarettes and alcohol usage to support lower taxes - so Einstein, who is the idiot here? |

The savings in healtlh care would likely offset much of the lost revenue. How can you put a price on feeling better, living longer and heather. Government studies have been done on the smoking part of your question. Why not get someone to read them to you. |

You've answered your own question. The government wouldn't lose a single red cent. They'd simply find other ways to get that revenue back.
Now, what you *really* should worry about is what would the everyday people do with that money they aren't spending on alcohol and tobacco. Unless they filled the void with junk food, most of your convenience stores would shut down. Which could get interesting since many of them have gas stations attached (and let me point out to you right now that even with gas prices where they are, those station owners aren't making that much profit, especially since they need to be competitive. A LOT of that price is the taxes.) |

A mature person would realize that some of those idiots have suffered themselves or had loved ones die from lung cancer or alcoholism. If it were me personally I guess I'd give up Federal revenue in exchange for keeping someone I love alive. But if you want to think these people are idiots in order to keep your taxes down you go ahead dude. I guess sensitivity just isn't your strong suit. |

4) tax on "incorrect usage of grammar" on under educated people.
5) tax on people who don't have American flag on there house because ......this is a republican country.
