tkf57 | If gordon brown cannot understand the implications of abolishing the 10p basic tax rate should he be ? |
running our country? if we can work out that the poor will be 8p in the £ worse off and the better will gain 2p in the £ i wonder how he managed to be chancellor for all those years let alone become prime minister- what qualificatiions did he need for the job - certainly not adding and taking away!! and certainly not common sense when you take away the lower tax rate the poor suffer - and now he says he didnt know at the time that it would cause problems - gordon brown wasnt even elected and here he is making decisions like this. what are your thoughts? Additional Details sorry folks couldnt choose best answer have put to vote some great answers here thanks great fun |

I think he knew perfectly well what he was doing. He took from pensioners and the poor to give 2p to the general working population who earn over a certain amount - obviously thinking he'd get all their votes. He just didn't expect the 2p thing to come back and bite him the way it did. (Bless Frank Field - I wish he was my MP.) Remember, this is the same man who takes billions out of pension funds every year- which will affect everyone in a pension scheme in the UK. He is afraid to take on big business or the very rich because he is relying on them to prop up his failing party via donations. He won't get back in. That thing he does with his mouth is enough to put me off! I've thought he was a write off from the day he became chancellor. Tony Blair was afraid of him and that's the only reason he backed him for PM. |

I would not let him run an egg and spoon race.
He sold off our gold reserves at knock down prices.
He abrogated responsibility for Interest rates, by putting the onus on the governor of the bank of england.
He raped pension funds.
et., et., etc.,
I could go on all day, but to me the final insult was, as an unelected prime minister, to sign the treaty of Portugal.
The man is an insult to level headed thinking humans. |

Excellent question, have a star. This man is unfit to lead this country. However, he and all the other MPs can count their salaries, expenses and how many houses they all own!! Snort, snort move over in the trough there I want more money from the poor to pay my pension. What do you mean petrol and diesel prices are up, I don't pay for that, the punters do!! Ha Ha, this is a great 'job', I wanna hang on to it!!!! Snort. |

No he shouldnt be running the country. Labour is supposedly helping the 'working man' but they are, they are more bothered about pay rises for themselves and the are making the rich richer and the poor poorer.
The sooner he is out of office, the better, |

Gordon Brown understood the implications of abolishing the 10% tax rate very well. He wasn't expecting such a backlash. just thought that a few lower paid may moan, but who would take any notice of them? Let's face it, what is £160 a year to an MP?
When the higher-paid found out how their tax reductions had been funded, they didn't like it. They made their feelings regarding the unfairness very clear, and they shouted about it, giving the Brown regime unwelcome publicity.
This Government copied what the Tories started, by doing a mini-budget in November when the Chancellor decides what the new tax rates will be for the following year. The Tories announced the new rates, loud and clear. This Government has always hidden the information in the small print, and the media don't seem to pick up on it. I tried to find it on the internet last November, but couldn't, it was only put on line not long before it took effect. When I was working, it took ages for the information to come through. It is much better for tax office staff to have the rates before the start of the tax year, in olden days it was announced at budget, and then we had to wait until the Finance Act was signed and implemented, so it would be perhaps late May before the benefit could be given. Now correct code numbers are issued before the start of the year. If staff know what is coming, they can advise taxpayers better, in relation to potential code number and future liability queries. |

I see this is a place for some Labour bashing all of a sudden - however, I will not be joining in with this idiocy.
Firstly, who would you have replace him? David "idiot" Cameron (*note* idiot isn't his middle name, he is just a very big one)
Secondly, I was forgetting that everyone on here was a succesful political analyst with a top quality business degree and you all have had a succesful time in the Chancellors Office.
Thirdly, what follows are capital letters: THESE ARE USED BY MOST NORMAL PEOPLE AT THE START OF SENTENCES.
Fourthly, what follows are paragraphs: Here is one.
And another one.
Dammit I just can't help myself.
Idiot! |

People elected more labour MPs to the house of common at the last general election than other parties. The PM is the leader of that party its not like a presidential election.
Yes it was ill conceived idea but money need to come from somewhere I wonder if the group most affect are also those most likely to display voter apathy in which case why should the government care if they piss them off . |
