Some unbelievable answers out there. ALL earned income is ALWAYS taxable income. Now a person may below certain minimums for the year...such as $400 minimum in self-employment income before paying S/E tax...but these thresholds have to do with the total money earned by someone for the year.

If someone wants to keep some money under the table because they don't think the IRS will catch them, that is their decision. But in the eyes of the IRS, there is not any doubt that this sort of income is classified as "taxable".

The answer from the IRS is yes. But if the amount of money that you earn is so low you probably get an exclusion.

Do you earn other income?

Yes, it's self-employment income and goes on schedule C.

I think G-man hit it on the head, and even IF the IRS has a "code" for it, you would be ignorant to inform them of your side earnings.

On a related note, I was listening to AM radio last night, and one of the guest speakers was a lawyer who went to court against the IRS, and WON.
He refuted the IRS's ability to tax income because the Constitution does not give an allowance for our government to tax earnings (like they do)
The allowance is there to tax goods at the time of purchase. (sales tax) but not a person's labour.

This win will hopefully bring about awareness of our governments constant illegal conduct against the citizenry, and ultimately, bring about a flat tax system for the purpose of running our govt.
(The flat tax system would eliminate the wealthy's need or abilitity to use tax loopholes)

technically, you only need to declare little side-job money if it totals more than $500 for the year.

no the only thing ur suppose to include in yur taxes are jobs the actually take taxes out. Unless you own a compnay or something...

no, unless its a registered business of cleaning granny houses. Informal work, non-taxable.

Most jobs in most states do not make you claim taxes until you go over about 6000. but you must check what your state will allow.. Most likely you can earn the 40.00 a month and get away with it... Ask your imployer if she intends to turn these sums into the tax man..
If you had a few jobs like this that may be considered a business...
