crazybeautiful4846 | If i didn't work and i have a child can i file taxes for just the child credit? |

HAH AHA HAHAHA...NO!
The credit is a credit back for the taxes you paid in. You don't get free money, credits are simply CREDITS off the taxes you pay. NOT free money. |

It's zero for you, if you didn't have any income. The child credit only reduces your tax - if yours is already zero there is nothing to reduce. EIC can give extra money even if a person doesn't owe any tax, but only people who have income from working are eligible for EIC |

I'm sorry to say you must have worked and had income to claim this credit.
To claim the child tax credit you must have at least some kind of tax liability. There is an Additional Child Tax Credit that allows you to claim a portion of your eligible $1000 child tax credit even if you have no tax liability and you have at least $8500 of income.

You asked about the child tax credit. Everybody has answered that you must have income so you have tax paid in for the credit to help you. That is true of the Child Tax Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit.
But I think you are wondering about the Earned Income Credit that for most people is based on having children. Unfortunately, for the Earned Income Credit, you also need to have worked. That is because, as the name "Earned" implies, you have to earn some income to get the credit.
If you didn't work at all, there is now need to file a tax return. Whoever paid your living expenses and those of your child can probably claim you and the child and you should encourage them to. |

NO you have to make atleast 3000 to be in the bracket to recieve full compensation. Your best bet is to find someone else to claim him/her and give them something for it |

No. Who supported you and the child? That party could claim both of you. |

ya know.. i'm going to disagree with that guy.. now i'm not 100% sure about it but i think the child credit does go beyond what you pay? but dont quote me.. |
