you might have to pay taxes on your alimony...

stephenweinstein
Anyone can file. The only requirements are being alive, or having been alive at some time during the tax year, and having a valid social security number, employer identification number, or individual taxpayer identification number. You do not have to have any income.

However, you are not likely to receive a refund. Also, children are dependents, not deductions.

v b
Even if the $2400 is qualified alimony, it's not enough to cause a tax bill.

Since it's NOT earned income to you, you wouldn't be eligible to get EIC or child tax credit.

Even if you didn't qualify for the stimulus based on your 2007 taxes, this wouldn't qualify you now. You neither paid taxes nor had earned income.

No because you didn't work and taxes weren't taken out of your paycheck.

There is Alimony and Child Support. Which of the two is "spousal?"
Child support is not income. Alimony is income and if what you receive is Alimony, you should file a form 1040 tax return because you should receive a large refund regarding the Earned Income Credit.

If your husband indicates in their 1040 that he paid alimony and indicates your social security number... then you may be liable for paying the tax and will have to file.

It depends on how the support agreement was witten.
If the support was taken out of his gross pay no you don't because he is responsibility of the tax. but in it comes from his NET income then yes
Review you divorce final agreement then talk to IRS

He got off easy I was making 2000.00 a month and my support payments were 666.00 per month X 12 = 7,992.00 year plus
medical for the two kids 200.00 per month = 2,400.00 year
total year 10,392.00 i did it for fourteen years.
Support to her was tax free.

You should file anyway besides I believe spousal supports are taxable, and it would be to your benefit to make sure IRS have a good valid street address so you can get any stimulus check Obama may be sending you next year. FYI, if you filed taxes for the year 2007 you should have gotten Bush's stimulus check sent out first part of this year. That would have been at least $600.
