If i get child support payments is that concidered income?
Do I put my son's child support down as income when i do my taxes?

Lulu
child support is not considered income..so the answer is No...you also claim your child as a dependent and receive the appropriate child tax credit on your return.....here is the publication that explains it

http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc422.html

No. Child support is not income for the recipient or deductible by the payer.

NO NO NO.

Not on your taxes. Child support is not taxable to the recieving parent, nor is it tax deductible for the paying parent. Now, if you were applying for a loan you CAN put it down as income to help you get that loan, credit card, or whatever, if you want to, but never on your taxes.

You don't have to pay taxes on child support because your spouse pays the taxes on it. You do have to note it though as tax-free income. It shouldn't affect your tax burden or refund.

child support payments are considered a source of income but as far as talking about putting it down on your taxes I don't think you should list child support payments because you do not have to pay taxes on it.
