I'd file because you'll actually get money back.

Did you have any taxes taken out of your pay? If you did, the only way to get a refund is by filing.

bostonianinmo
Based upon that income you won't have any tax liability if it was from wages subject to withholding. You would only need to file to have any income taxes withheld refunded to you OR to claim the Earned Income Credit if you're eligible for it.

If the 2 dependents are your children you probably qualify for the EIC if that income was from wages or self-employment. With that income the EIC would be $2,350 and you would have to file to claim it.

However if you can be claimed as a dependent yourself you would need to file a return since your income would be above the filing requirement amount for a single taxpayer who is the dependent of another taxpayer. In this case you would not be able to claim your own dependents and are not eligible for the EIC.

You ask about someone claiming you - is there someone who can? If your parents or someone else can claim you, then yes you have to file, but you can't claim yourself or any dependents, and wouldn't be eligible for EIC. If you are under 19 or under 24 and a full-time student, lived with your parents for over half of the year, and didn't provide over half of your own support which you probably didn't with that income, then they can claim you - if you have two children and the children also lived with them, then they'd be able to claim the children also. You don't give enough info in your question to be able to say whether you can be claimed.

If you can't be claimed by anyone as a dependent, then you aren't required to file, but should file anyway since you would be eligible for an earned income credit.

Yes,you should file. You probably will be considered for the low income tax credit because you have children.

InTheDark
I would definitely file, you stand to get a large return. if you don't file, you get nothing.

justanotherone
I would file if I were you. Do you realize how large a return you'll get?

Kristina
you have to pay taxes on all income, regardless of how small the income is, or you can be charged with fraud if audited
