If you claimed more than allowed and that's it the IRS will detect that your claiming more than maximum and the computer will automatically fix it. But if your still not relieved by this you could call the IRS 1-800-829-1040 BEST WISHES and GOOD LUCK!!!!!! |

You need to file an amended return. When it comes to the IRS - you want to be proactive. Don't wait for them to contact you.
See this page for more information.

if it was a calculation error, the IRS will catch it and make an adjustment for you. they will send you a notice explaining their changes. if this is the case, i wouldnt worry about filing an amended return at this time. wait until you hear from them. |

If you made an error on your tax return the IRS should be able to fix it , but if you filed your taxes on - line you should be able to go back to that web site and correct your era. |

only if it benefits them. at that point, the irs will send you the bill. you will recognize it . it looks suspiciously like a 'demand for underpayment of taxes' type of bill. |

N o, they are not in the business of fixing tax payers errors. For that they have a form (1040X) for you to enter the correct information |

you can amend. the irs may send you a notice and charge you penalties once they see the mistake. |

The best option is to file an amended return. The IRS system could catch it but then again it might just slip through and when they are auditing they notice a difference. Normally this could take sometime to find the error so if you owe them money they will want penalties, interest and the whole nine yards. this way you have corrected the return and filed the corrections before the deadline which will benefit you.

They might. You'd be better off filing an amended return and fixing the error. If they do, it could be a year or more, and you'll owe not just the extra taxes, but also interest. |

No they won't. The responsibility is yours - so notify them quickly and find out how to amend your tax form. |
