Wether it's worth it or not, it's the law. If you have an income, you must file. |

Yes you should file. If you are low income they will do it free at least here in Mi. You should be able to get earned income credit. At least check it out. |

You can't get earned income credit unless you file; by filling out the forms you will see if you are eligible. |

If you paid any withholding, file to get it back! It does not sound like you'll pay. But make sure you do it in the quickest way possible, so that whatever you get back can translate to a nice hourly wage (think $100 refund divided by two hours is $50/hr!) |

You have to file taxes! I believe it's a law if you work. You may even get money back even if you paid nothing into it especially if you can file head of household. I would call the IRS and ask them. I thought you had to file even if someone else claims you but I'm not 100% sure. |

Stop by your local library and pick up the 1040 instruction booklet. Or check out irs.gov. There is a chart that you can look at to see what you had to make for the year in order to have to file your taxes. If you fall below that amount, then you do not have to file. |

If you only worked one month, your total income is probably below the amount where you'd have to file, which is $8450 this year, assuming you're not a dependent of anyone and that your income was not from self-employment.
If you had anything taken out, you should definitely file to get back what you paid in. Even if you didn't, if you're not a dependent of anyone you're probably eligible for the Earned Income Credit, so should file. |

If you didn't have any taxes withheld (because you gave your employer a form, W-4, that said you would not owe anything), then I agree that there is no need to file a tax return, except in a situation that probably doesn't apply to you. That situation is the possibility that you are entitled to an earned income tax CREDIT, so that you would get money even if you didn't pay taxes. But if you only worked one month, you are probably not self-supporting. And in that case, you won't get the earned income credit.
It's worth double checking however. See the source below.
If EIC doesn't apply to your situation, and you don't owe taxes, then don't bother to file.
Good luck!! |

It would be a good idea to talk to someone who does taxes. It's possible you would get money back. |

You don't have to file your federal if your income is under a certain amount. State returns are another story.
Since you only worked 1 month for the whole year, you don't have to file. You won't owe any tax but you can get back any tax you paid in. And while you may not get a huge refund, you might get a decent amount from EIC. Not thousands, but maybe a few hundred (depending on income of course).
Daycare and college credits reduce the amount of tax. Since you won't have any tax, these credits won't make any difference. |

Uhh, definitely file. At the very least grab the tax paperwork from your local library and do the math to see. Chances are with your situation you'll get 100% of whatever you paid in taxes back. Granted that may not be much money, but it's still better than letting Uncle Sam get it.
Does your mom not want you to file so she can claim you as her dependent? |
|

you still have to file. |

You have to file, you have no choice in the matter! |
