If i were to get married and not change my name would the irs find out?

Charles G
The IRS has no concern about what you call yourself.

Now, if you motivation is to avoid paying taxes, that is another issue altogether.

The IRS CAN find out. Whether they will or not depends on their current priorities du jour.

You don't have to change your name

Lots of people get married, and don't have a name change. What exactly are you asking, and what are you trying to hide?

Sunshine
Yes... when you file taxes.. But, like the other person said, you don't have to change your name if you don't feel like it. Or, you can change it to Mickey Mouse for all the IRS cares- as long as you report your income.

There's no requirement to change your name. Just be sure that when you file, you file under the same name as is on your social security card.

If you are asking if you can get away with tax fraud by claiming to still be single even though you are actually married, that's not a wise thing to do, and it can cost you if you try it and get caught.

You don't have to change your name. And I hope your not trying to skirt around taxes by not changing it. Because that's kind of lame.

Breezy
When you get married you don't have to get your name changed. IRS will see you got married and had no name change and that is perfectly fine.

wartz
There is nothing to find out. You remain you.

You are not required to change your name. You are required to pay your taxes regardless of what your name is.

The name and SS number you put on your tax return must match SS records, so if you do change, make sure to notify SS.
