If i were to owe back child support can they take my tax rebate?
I don't owe it but my sister does. I don't have any kids
Additional Details
Ok so let me ask this... I don't know the amounts my sister owes but she is saying that even if she only owes $300 on her back child support the state will take all of the refund or rebate owed to her.... can they do that? I don't have children so I don't know the child support laws. any insight to this is greatly appreciated!!!!

are you talking about the 'rebate' that is supposedly going thru just now? or are you talking about your income tax return? They can take all of your income tax return until you're caught up, but i'm not sure about the $500 or $600 dollar rebate that we may be getting in June. I would think they would be able to. ;) sorry!

YES THEY CAN

twocute4u
They will take every dime.

Yes. Child support orders are deducted from a person's net pay. So someone that knows how taxes work could ask their employer to make their federal withholding tax really high (knowing they would get a hefty refund) , so their net pay would be lower, therefore reducing their child support deduction.

They can and they will.

It depends on the state you live in and their guidelines. For instance, here in Pennsylvania, if you owe $5000 or more, they take your federal return.
