Kris3205 | If my boss didn't give me a W-2 for babysitting for him on the side, do I still have to report the earnings? |
My boss did send me a piece of paper with the total earnings of babysistting along with my W-2 for working my regular job. Additional Details It was about $1,000 I made babysitting. I didn't pay taxes on the babysitting money. He paid me by check. I didn't get a 1099 form. I watched the kids at his house. |

Were you paid cash or check? If it is cash don't bother. It really depends on how much you earned. $20 or $30 a night is probably not worth the effort or worry. If it is a real income then that's a different story. |

You won't get a W-2 for babysitting. It isn't required, but he could give you a 1099 for misc. income. If your boss is going to use you as a deduction for his taxes, you will probably have to report your babysitting income on yours. However, if you don't like him, you can always ask the IRS about domestic employment taxes. You didn't say how much you made in babysitting, but if you are concerned about the tax for, it sounds like it was a substantial amount. Did you work at his home or yours? You also might want to ask him if he used your social security number to deduct your babysitting from his taxes.
Double check with the irs though. |

You have to report all earnings; however, if your boss hired you as part time or temporary domestic labor he does not have to give you a W2 unless he withheld taxes or insurance (unemployment & SSI) from your pay. |

Yes. You are still supposed to report your babysitting earnings. Since it was on the side, not for your boss's company. The babysitting money will not be on the W-2. He doesn't have to report you babysitting earnings to the government if the yearly total is less than $600. That's probably why he just used a piece of paper. |

If he's reporting it as an expense on his taxes and you provided your social security number for this purpose, then you need to report those earnings. |

It definitely depends on if he's reporting it as an expense. If he's not there's no way in hell I would report it. |
