you have to find 5.6% of $9.30

to do that..you can set up a fraction...

5.6% over 100

and x over 9.30

cross multipy and divide..

.5208 is the answer..since you doing money you must round..so 5.6% of $9.30 is $.52.

Add $9.30 and $.52.

Your Answer is $9.82.

Robert M
5% of $9.30 is ... about $.47 ($.45 for the $9, plus about $.02 for the $.30)
.6% of $9.30 is ... about $.05 (about $.05 for the $9 plus about $.002 for the $.30
Therefore the total cost is $.52 of tax for a total of $9.82

The trick is to break the numbers down into manageable parts and then simply add them up ... or you can always have a calculator by your side.

rtfm
You need to find 105.6 percent of your purchase price (because you are going to pay 100 percent of the price plus 5.6 percent of the price)

So just multiply the purchase price times 1.056
