If my total for something is $40.00, and the sales tax is 4.65%, how much would the total cost be with tax?
If my total is 40.00 dollars, and the state sales tax is 4.65%...how much would the total be WITH the sales tax?

the one
its really simplet math. multiply . (point)40 x 4.65 = 1.86
then 1.86 + 40.00 = 41.86

take a calculator if you have one and multiply
40 x .0465, that will give you $1.86

for example, if you wanted to know how much
7% sales tax would be on a $25 purchase,
that would be 25 x .07 or $1.75

Andrew
thats an odd sales tax...
41.86 i believe

All you do is take the sales amount then times it by the sales tax and that is the amount of the tax.

So you take 40 times .0465 is $1.86.

$40 plus $1.86 is $41.86

Why cant you do this yourself???

a.m.
you would take the cost of whatever you were buying and multiply it by the sales tax.
(4.56% in decimal form is 0.0456 and the one means that you are going to add cost of the object, 100%, which in decimal form is 1, to the sales tax)
t= 40 x 1.0456
there fore the total cost would be about $41.82

It would be:

((40.00 x 4.65) / 100) + 40 = 41.86

40 * .0465 = T. Add T to 40 and you get your answer.

Or you could just take a shortcut and do 40 * 1.0465

$41.86

40.00 x 1.0465

use 1.0465 so it adds the 40 dollars back in to the answer.

Probably around 42 dollars.
10% of $40.00 is $4.00
so 4.65% is a little less than half of 10%
so if 10% is 4.00, then half of 10% will be 2.00

So just add $2.00 and you will be very close. to the amount.

41.85. To find the tax, you take the tax percent, move the decimal over 2 places and X by the price of the item. That's how much the tax will cost.
