Gas isn't deductable unless she kept a mileage log.
Food generally isn't deductable.

You are self employed or independent contractor. You will report your income and expenses on schedule C or C-EZ (Form 1040). This income is subject to SE tax at 15.3%. Read about self employed (or independent contractor) tax filing and payment of estimated taxes: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/04/tax-filing-by-self-employed-sole.html

Yes their are deductions for a home business.

To qualify to deduct expenses for business use of your home, you must use part of your home:

Primarily, and on a regular basis, as your main place of business,
As the place where you meet or deal with patients, clients or customers in the normal course of your trade or business on a regular basis,
As the primary place of storage for inventory or business equipment,
For rental use, or
As a childcare or other daycare facility.

In most cases, you cannot deduct expenses that are related to tax-exempt allowances

General tax deductable home expenses include:

Real estate taxes.
Qualified mortgage insurance premiums.
Deductible mortgage interest.
Casualty losses.
Home business deductions:

Depreciation
Insurance
Rent
Repairs
Security system
Utilities and services
If you are renting your place of residence and meet the requirements for business use of your home, you can deduct part of the rent you pay.
