I'm amazed by some of the answers. You haven't had any income at all. What income are you going to report?? NO INCOME = NO TAX RETURN. |

you cannot qualify 4 tax credits if u havent paid any taxes. even if you have dependents there are no credits available for anyone who doesnt have earned income. sorry, uncle sam doesnt give if he hasnt received. |

The only way you can receive a return of more that you had withheld is if you are entitled to a "refundable credit". The EIC (earned income credit) is a "refundable credit", but you must have earned income to qualify. Since you did not work, you had no withholdings and do not qualify for the EIC. Some one suggested the "Child and Dependent Care Credit". This credit is a percentage of the "work related" child and dependent care expenses. If you did not work, this does not apply. |

Who is supporting you? If you are of a certain age and in school, someone else can claim you as a dependent. You need to be sure you are not being claimed by someone else before you look into actually filing a return. There are certain circumstances where you can get some $ back but I believe you have to have some form of income. |

Yes you can file. Try it and see if you can get anything. You probably also qualify for the earned income tax credit program. Don't pay someone though.
At tax time, go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and look for free filing offers. There are a lot of companies (e.g. turbotax, taxcut, etc.) that if you meet income thresholds allow you to do an online filing, free. In the past, the links have been available through the IRS website. I think they also allow you to select your State and take care of it at the same time too.
Good luck! |
